“written words will create forgetfulness in people’s souls, because they will not use their memories; they will trust the external written characters and not remember of themselves. Words are an aid not to the memory, but reminiscence, that give people not truth, but only the semblance of truth; they will be hearers of many things and will have remembered nothing; they will appear to be omniscient and will generally contain nothing; they will be tiresome company, having the access to wisdom without its actual possession.” ~Socrates on Writing Notes, Phaedrus.

With the ability to translate thoughts into alphabets, we subscribe to the encode-store-recall model of note taking. Writing notes and thus ‘not forgetting things’ has been an established practice since long time, more so in corporate environment where white-collar people tend to miss out on important things as they handle multiple roles and responsibilities. Here is a solution that combines natural handwriting experience and timely reminder, to keep office life in good order.

The project started with looking into the possibilities of bringing together the experience of handwriting a note, and alarm system for these notes. The first step was the user study wherein 20 office-goers from the age group of 20 to 50 were observed and interviewed. Based on tasks they write/ scribble/ draw while at their desks, the notes were divided into three categories and the solution addresses the third one (the Reminders).

The project culminated into a standalone tabletop product through a series of software and hardware prototypes.
